    Arkansas R&B/soul star, C.R. Knight has just dropped his first full-length album via Bongo Boy Records – She Got A Bad Thang – a ten-track masterclass in passion and temptation that transforms the honeymoon phase into addictive sound. After having had the pleasure to review  C.R. Knight’s lead single last month, we can’t wait to sink into C.R.’s grooves once more. Let’s dive in…

    C.R. Knight kicks off the album with his lead Valentine’s Day single, “You Got A Bad Thang,”; a full review of which you can read here.

    But as we wander into new territory, C.R. Knight treats us to a fresh exploration of retro romanticism; a flashback sound that blends 70s soul and disco with timeless and sultry R&B themes, setting candlelit moods that keep us captivated from the start. His spoken word intros aren’t quite as risque as Barry White’s, but they set scenes drenched in flirtation, flattery, and a soft hint of comedy.
     
     
    The red-hot fantasies of “If You Were My Wife” craft a track that instantly stands out, as C.R. Knight woos the lady of his lyrical dreams with tempting descriptions of nurture, adoration, and adventure.

    Then, he shreds the theme with follow-up track, “I Should Have Moved On,” daring to trace a polar-opposite story of unfaithful partners and heartbreak as a gospel choir brightens each stark emotion.

    It’s not all lovey-dovey, though. “Surprise Party” takes on a birthday theme, “I’m Building A House” metaphorises its title into a story of finding inner content and familiar stability, while “Cousin Sally & Cousin Joe” accentuates themes of reconnection and personal transformations.

    A vivid thread of inspiration binds each song in place, each track possessing a similar, sisterly atmosphere which gradually evolves to form an album that’s self-assured, well-rounded, and fantastically consistent. There’s no hectic, mood-ruining sonic leaps to be heard, only the sound of an artist who stays in his lane and experiments within comfortable boundaries, keeping his listeners anchored in the blissfully familiar whilst surprising them with slightly new angles on the tried and true.

  • “We Tore Up the House” offers something different again, tipping its hat to the tight-knit vocal interplay of the doo-wop era and echoing the lush male harmony groups that defined it. Then there’s “Surprise Party”, which shifts gears into something more upbeat, driven by a lush bass groove that seems to function as much as the song’s melody as it does its rhythmic engine.

    “I’m Building a House” brings in a bit of a change, weaving the gentle echo of a reggae undercurrent through an otherwise balladic R&B framework, while “Cousin Sally & Cousin Joe” edges toward the sort of social commentary, and everyday observation that Marvin Gaye made his own when he turned began to document the world around him rather than sing the love songs that Motown gave him.

    This is the sound of an artist who knows where the music that he loves has come from, because he comes from there, too. It is also the sound of someone who knows, not only where it needs to go, but who understands that the journey is one of gentle evolution rather than revolution.

Knight’s steamy lyrics, glossing another layer of vibrant authenticity over this single. Meanwhile, C.R. unravels a story of falling in love across the dance floor; suggestive but sweet, as smitten as any woman wants her man to be.

    C.R. Knight is gearing up to drop his brand new studio album, “She Got A Bad Thang” on March 21, 2026, via Bongo Boy Records; the long-awaited follow-up to his 2018 eponymous debut record. You Got A Bad Thang, on the other hand, is the perfect teaser track, leaving us on the edge and totally excited for the new surprises C.R.   • Running on a seductive, sassy R&B groove, everything about the sonics here is elegant and eloquent, certainly a case of less is more, a song built on quite dignity but which is unambiguous in the love he is celebrating. Beats tick in a spacious yet precise fashion, soulful guitar licks seem to wander in and out of earshot, and gentle cascades of piano flow and bass melodies unfold. Nothing overpowers, nothing steals the focus from the vocal dedication being offered.
