    Conceptz – ‘Break It Down’

    November 17, 2017| Bryon William

    About Conceptz:

The dynamic hip-hop duo from New York are back at it again with another killer song. The brothers, often mistaken for twins, are driven by their shared passion to create great music and they never disappoint their fans. With multiple features on BongoBoy compilations and songs being distributed all throughout Asia, Conceptz continue to grow in popularity. They now released another killer music video to their song “Break It Down”

Music Video Review: Starting off, we hear a glimpse of the production as the video rewinds to the start. The beat drops in and immediately the rappers start going off. The first scene has them playing the character of a construction worker as he cleverly spits bars, “I work construction, nights in the valley Hudson/ Moving traffic slowly even though the cars is rushin/ Helmet on just in case something falls, if it does it lowers my chances of suffering concussions.” Conceptz always display a high level of creativity with their music and videos that is sure to amass fans from all over.

  • As the song progresses, the duo take on different roles in the community and rap a verse from their perspective. Following the construction worker, the scene does a nice transition showing the other twin dressed as a police officer as he shows off his killer flow. The brothers continue to switch off every verse embodying a different character and personality. From chefs, to street thugs, pilots, and trap artist selling albums on the street, Conceptz show that they can rap an ill, smooth verse about almost anything boasting their prowess as rappers and wordsmiths. “Break It Down” runs at about two and a half minutes long making it a quick delightful tune that is easy to love.

Conceptz prove again and again that they have not only the passion but the skill to make a name for themselves in the music scene. “Break It Down” adds another song and video to the long list of great tracks from Conceptz. Be sure to check out the other songs and videos Conceptz have been diligently working to release.

    Conceptz – ‘The Band’

    October 20, 2017 |  Bryon William

The video kicks off with an intro showing “The Band” as they are preparing to get ready for a show that night. Sitting in an all-white room, comedic dialog follows as each member gets a freeze-frame introduction showing their nickname. Changing scenes, the band is not set up to play and the song kicks off with a jazzy piano chord before breaking into the first verse. “Curly Boy McGee” takes the first verse bouncing energetically around the mic as he raps, “They call me Curly Boy McGee/ I’m on the jazz flute serenade your girl with ease/As if I have to,” showing off his smooth, addictive flow.

  • The song progresses with shots of each band member jamming making for a captivating video. Reaching the chorus, we then see the brothers singing in unison, “It’s the band, just sit back and relax/We shut it down no matter where we at/If you’re looking for a good time you came to the right place/ We’re the best yeah that’s a fact.” With easy to remember lyrics and a smooth melody the chorus will undoubtedly stick in your mind. “The Star” takes the next verse displaying his deeper tone and laid-back flow. As he raps, he slowly approaches the other microphone to stand next to his brother for the final chorus. Closing out, the song comes to an end and the band members crack jokes and throw off their wigs.

Conceptz do not disappoint with a stellar song and entertaining video to go along with it. “The Band” will leave viewers in excitement for the new videos coming later this fall

    Conceptz – ‘Backwards’

    December 8, 2017 | Bryon William

As the video starts, the beat drops in as cinematic shots of the Conceptz brothers in the city create the setting and mood for the video.  After the brief intro, we cut to one of the brothers sitting outside on the steps and he cuts in with his verse rapping, “Still struggle, no friends, likes, and comments. Conscious telling me give up that’s nonsense,” displaying a top-notch word play and a stellar rhythmic flow proclaiming his talent as a rapper. The video continues to switch between different shots of him

  • In “Backwards” Conceptz rap about the struggle of getting their image known and their music out there. As the video progresses, the focus turns to both brothers as they hype up leading into the chorus. With cool shots of the brothers on rooftops, they rap, “We got the strategy, now we gotta make work. Five years running the wrong way its backwards,” with a melodic flow that will stick with you long after you finish the video. Moving forward, the other Conceptz brother takes the next verse and the video shifts focus to scenes of him around the city streets as he spits with an immaculate old-school flow.

The music video for “Backwards” gives a more personal look into Conceptz and their musical journey that you will not want to miss out on. With each new release, Conceptz becomes easier to fall in love with.

  • Hej America!

A couple of days ago my friends at Bongo Boy asked me to take a look at some new music videos by a group called Conceptz. I love music videos and I thought to myself this should be cool. You see kids, I remember before Rock and Roll had pictures, then when I was 16 MTV changed the world. So with visions of MTV, back when they actually played music, in my head I turn my attention Conceptz:

  • Video one: The Band by CONCEPTZ

Firstly, I must say these guys crack me up.  I really dig their sense of humor especially at then when they all take off their wigs that are meant to make them look like the member dubbed ‘the Star’. Secondly and perhaps more importantly, this is a GOOD band. I dig their rapping ability, but what really blew me away was the vocal harmonies. This takes me back to my youth listening to old Motown. The fact that they are a live band and use actual instruments and groove like the old Temptations.

  • Video two: BREAK IT DOWN! by CONCEPTZ

Man, I really like these guys. This video is all about the dreaded Day Job that all musicians have to do until they are fortunate enough to make enough doing what they love. I really got a kick out of they lyrics that mock Gordon Ramsay. The video made me laugh, but also made me smile and think “Hang in there guys!” As my 94 year old Dad would say “You’ve got moxie.”

  • Video three: BACKWARDS by CONCEPTZ

I like this video. These guys can really sing, I mean really sing well. The entire video is the same story told by a million bands. Making money playing music is very difficult. All I can say is I know how you feel guys. I once went to get paid after a show and the promoter said he had spent all the money buying food to sell during the show. Yeah, like Punks ever thought “You know this band is tearing it up, but right now I want a hot dog.” The bottom line is we were ‘paid’ with, literally, cases and cases of hot dogs. All I can say guys is that you have fantastic voices and hang in there, I would buy a ticket to your show.

  • Video four: GRIND MODE by CONCEPTZ ft. Styles P

I must applaud this group! The absolutely have a very strong work ethic. They call it Grind Time, I always thought of it as ‘Going to work’, but it is the same thing. Practicing, promoting, trying to get people to come to your shows, putting up with the BS from people who see you as a way to make money. It can, and does, wear down many talented people. There are two parts of this song that I really like: The man mentions putting himself second and the music first. Bingo! It has to be about the music or the rest will simply suck. It doesn’t even matter what kind of music it is. From YoY o Ma who blew away the world of classical to Metallica who is one of the most amazing metal bands ever, the principle is the same: It is about the music! Secondly, I like the line when he talks about people who think carrying a gun is dangerous when making a rhyme is like having a bomb. The pen is mightier than the sword. Anyone can point and pull a trigger, but it takes intelligence to communicate effectively. CONCEPTZ are some very effective communicators who now have a fan living in the Rocky Mountains.
