The Pete V Projects latest single ‘Stop Pushing Love Away’ is the follow up to the positively received ‘Come on baby (come on over)’ which featured the vocal talents of Reece Bahia, and it continues to have world-wide radio airplay.
It’s not often the music industry hides a talent like Marie Virginie Pierre who is the artist known as the “Pete V Project”. ‘Stop Pushing Love Away’ showcases Marie’s sublime vocals as well as her skills as a song-writer and producer. The song was co-produced with Paul Miles.
As with the first release, the track blends dance beats with strong melodies ‘Stop Pushing Love away’ is a drum and bass infused pop track with a haunting saxophone solo delivered by the formidable Antonio Campbell.
At first listen the ‘Stop Pushing Love Away’ seems to be in response to the answer phone message voiced by Adam David Barker. However Marie explains that the answer phone message is supposed to be a manifestation of fears we all have of rejection and song is actually a love-song to yourself, to love yourself and to let love in.
Marie has had various publishing deals over a number of years but felt that she was being ‘left on the shelf’. As a result she has set-up her own record label Pierreplay Records Ltd. to showcase and promote her own compositions. The first releases were for her alter ego The Pete V Project. The second release was a charity single for homelessness performed by Sam Northwood which was officially endorsed by both Centre-Point homeless Charity and DePaul International. These releases have generated positive reviews and have had global radio airplay including in the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia and Asia. READ MORE
I am so humbled to share the first review for my forthcoming single 'Stop Pushing Love Away' thank you Rebecca Cullen!
Once underway the song is driven by a happy hardcore beat, all urgency and adrenaline and wonderfully at odds with the restraint and soulfulness of Marie Virginie Pierre’s sublime vocals and the woozy, sultry late night, jazz bar vibes of Antonio Campbell’s sonorous saxophone. But that is the art of it I guess, it may be easy to drop this track into a box and label it EDM, but it references as many past sounds as it does offer new musical benchmarks. READ MORE
The music as said already, has that jazz genre in place, but provides other genre choices, as the EDM, techno genre, being very pulse pumping, and upbeat, it’s pretty much like a dance track, you could possibly even hear, at a night club, or a radio station playing said music even. Her style as a whole sounds like something that would come out of the 70’s to 80’s era, being very old fashioned in that sense. It’s just a song that has a lot to offer, and provides a genre aspect that can capture it all. READ MORE
Glorious ambient washes of sound introduce the piece. A far-off message adds further intimacy to the track. When the rhythm falls into the mix it gives the song a nimble sensibility. Vocals keep up with the rhythm adding to the overall hopeful nature of the track. Possessing a sweetness to them, the lyrics start to craft a narrative. Love rests at the front and center of the track for all else stems from it. Playful in nature, the bouncy melody is nicely buttressed by a rather expressive saxophone which only further adds to the tenderness that comes to define the entirety of the track. Eventually everything builds up into a glorious, colorful finale with a wonderful blur of sound. READ MORE
Mixing elements of dance and EDM with the appealing aspects of pop music, Stop Pushing Love Away grabs from the moment you click play and keeps you engaged to the very end.
The unexpected but very welcomed and aptly placed saxophone solo is the perfect icing on this sonic layer cake.
Artist Biography:
Marie Virginie Pierre AKA the Pete V Project
The Pete V Project is the pseudonym of London based vocalist, song-writer and music producer Marie Virginie Pierre. Marie explains that she decided to use this moniker (Pierre translated into English is Peter) so that the ‘focus remained on the music’. The Pete V Project showcases Marie’s love for dance music mixing different EDM sub-genres with catchy pop melodies.
A song-writer since child-hood, Marie explains that song-writing has always been second nature and still gets excited when the lyrics, melody and chord progression become one. Marie prefers to write alone and as such has sole song-writing credits, which is unusual in today’s committee driven pop industry.
As an artist, Marie has been fortunate to have worked with a number of talented producers, who have helped to develop her vocal style. Early in her music career she was signed to a small independent label which gave her the confidence to branch out into producing and writing her own material. Marie plays keyboards and guitar.
Marie also performs under the pseudonym of Girl on the Run which is rock/pop based with music out later in the year.
